Want/Need
thesis
Spring 2010
"This project started out with a simple interest in things that came in series. Little did I know, it evolved into something obviously much more than that. It grew into an examination on how we, as human beings,
are programmed with this natural conflict between our
wants and our needs.
Often in our daily lives, we take the time (whether it’s conscious or not) to debate the ultimate battle: what do I need? but what is it that I need? It can range from the simplist things, such as “i want to eat out, but I need to eat in to save money”, to more complex situations like deciding what we want to do with our future versus what we need to do. Based on responses from my peers about what their needs and wants are, I broke this project into 5 overall categories, according to the most popular: food, money, relationship, sleep, and work. This publication delves into what those relationships are, and in a way, creates a visualization of how those dynamics may function.
I don’t expect this project to be life changing in any way for you.
But, perhaps if it doesn’t at least help your future decision making a little bit easier, it will at least have entertained you for the time being, because it did for me.
Enjoy!"
